We have roots !

It's confirmed.
The Romaine Lettuce that I bought from the night market has grown roots,
after about a week with its lower stem submerged in water !

The roots

The plant after a week on hydroponic? Will it survive till transplanting to soil? Only time and experiment will tell....

At first, I left all the plants at the wash area where it will get direct sunlight in the morning for about 4 hours. The plant withered quite quickly on the first 4 four days, and so my wife and I decided to shift them to the door step of the balcony glass door in front, indoor, where they still get bright light for most of the day.
The water is changed almost everyday. I made an effort to use "aired water", so that the chlorine in the tap water is reduced. I do it by just leaving a basin of tap water in the open anywhere in the house for at least 2 hours.

KL Vegetable Garden first planting - Romaine Lettuce

Planning to plant a lettuce in a pot / container.
The lettuce of interest is called "Romaine Lettuce" or popularly known as "Yau Mak" in Cantonese [a Chinese dialect].
We will first have to look for a plant with roots intact or seeds from the wet market or nurseries.
So, watch this space.
